This year I completed an MA in Sequential Design & Illustration at the University of Brighton. My swan song was a project that I thought up around July, after crashing and burning with a couple of previous ideas. Research into my projects took me in the direction of animal facts and how flippin’ brilliant they were and from there I decided to create a celebration of this.
The final article is a 24 page, double-sided concertina, or pendolino format book. Detailing 46 facts about the animal world that are likely to astound and inform. I decided to separate the facts from the human-world, I wanted them to be amazing on their lonesome without the need to compare them to our many areas of mediocrity.
It was super fun project to sink my teeth into, had to design around 50 animal characters, had a lot of fun with colour and watercolour and created my first really ‘sequential’ piece of work.
The show is currently on at Brighton University Grand Parade Campus, every day until the end of friday, 10-5. Go and have a look if you’re about. Here’s the website for the show.
